Freelance Writer, 2005-Present 

Manage all aspects of a personal writing business, from seeking clients to billing. Write articles on a range of topics and adjust tone, style and content to fit each client's needs. Research and source article topics to obtain high-quality information, and conduct thorough interviews to achieve multisource articles. Pitch article ideas to clients to fit their respective subscriber interests. Edit all content completely prior to submitting articles, and consistently meet or beat article deadlines. Trend Publishing, 2010-Present

Executive Editor, Modern Metals and FFJournal (2011-Present)

Drive content and production for FFJournal while providing editorial support, including writing and editing, to Modern Metals. Liase with fellow editors to generate quality content of interest to the publications' target audience. Manage in-house and contributing editors and freelance writers. Ensure content meets high standards and adhere to AP Style. Network with industry members to follow trends and gain valuable contacts.

Managing Editor, Modern Metals and FFJournal (2010-2011)

Manage multiple aspects of FFJournal and Modern Metals magazines. Directly support the Publisher and Editor-In-Chief. Edit in-house and contributed copy to fit both AP Style and house style. Meet weekly and monthly deadlines. Write original content both for print and the web.

Associate Editor, ISO&Agent Weekly (2008-2010)

Spearheaded publication of ISO&Agent Weekly, a weekly PDF e-newsletter delivered to nearly 6,000 subscribers, while simultaneously developing and contributing content for a print publication (ISO&Agent), a daily e-newsletter (CardLine) and a biweekly e-newsletter (MobileBanker). Selected article topics and determined article placement for ISO&Agent Weekly. Researched and wrote multisource articles for all four publications, with articles varying in length from 200 to 2,000 words. Adhered to production schedules and directed layout and design of the weekly e-newsletter while working in Quark. Posted publication content onto a website, and sent e-newsletters via an online mailing system. Collaborated with team members on CardLine and MobileBanker to ensure the publications cover necessary news items. Edited articles to fit company style and adhered to AP Style.

Associate Editor, ATM&Debit News (2007-2008)

Covered the debit industry thoroughly by initiating interviews and following breaking-news stories and trends for ATM&Debit News, a weekly e-newsletter with roughly 700 paid subscribers. Found, developed, pitched and wrote stories for inclusion in CardLine, a daily e-newsletter. Developed relationships with key industry members and monitored news sources to uncover timely article topics relevant to subscribers. Edited articles to adhere to company style and AP Style. Sent the e-newsletter to suscribers each week via an online mailing system. Traveled to industry events to develop contacts and liaise with industry members.

  • Broke  major industry-news story in CardLine, beating competitors' coverage of the topic, and expanded the topic with analysis and details in a longer article published in ATM&Debit News.


 

Associate Editor, Scranton Gillette Communications, 2005-2007

Contributed content and ideas to three publications in the horticulture industry. Wrote feature-length articles regularly for Lawn & Garden Retailer, GPN and Big Grower, often contributing multiple articles per issue. Brainstormed ideas for new departments and articles, originating the idea for a sucessful new Lawn & Garden Retailer column Outside the Industry. Managed freelancers, contributing authors and editorial assistants to ensure quality content and timely completion of articles. Contributed to three e-newsletters, creating content, formatting text and sending the e-newsletters. Ensured a consistent editorial style and adhered to AP Style while editing content. Traveled frequently to multiple industry trade publications, and maintained industry contacts.

  • Originated the concept for and wrote a 1,500-work Outside the Industry column for each issue of Lawn & Garden Retailer in 2007.
  • Contributed to a Folio: Gold Award-winning issue of GPN.

Graduate Assistant, Depaul University Writing Centers, 2003-2005

Raised awareness of the Writing Centers among university students and faculty by spearheading outreach programs. Originated and delivered informative presentations to classes to teach them about the Writing Centers. Marketed the availability of in-class Writing Center presentations to faculty, scheduled class presentations for two Writing Center locations and delivered them at two campuses. Developed the Academic Disciplines liaison program that encouraged each academic department to submit writing tips pertinent to their respective areas. Managed undergraduate tutors at two Writing Center offices by scheduling tutoring sessions and monitoring tasks.

  • Authored the Writing Center manual for the Academic Disciplines liaison program
  • Developed the Academic Disciplines liaison program as a resource for DePaul University students who write across a number of academic fields. 


 

Writing Tutor, Depaul University Writing Centers, 2001-2003

Collaborated one-on-one with DePaul University undergraduate, graduate and English-second-language students to improve their writing skills and assignments. Assessed students' writing needs and determined the best course of action to address issues. Tutored both in person and in an e-tutoring environment.

  • Selected to participate in the Graduate Assistantship program.

     

Editorial Intern, Ivan R. Dee, Publisher, 2003-2003

Partnered with the editorial team and fellow interns to review and promote books. Proofread catalogue copy and assessed manuscript submissions. Developed and wrote articles for the company newsletter, collaborating with other interns to choose article topics and design the look of the newsletter. Edited copy to adhere to the Chicago Manual of Style.
